Overview of Technology

Diabetes affects over 530 million people worldwide and requires continuous monitoring to prevent complications. However, glucose monitoring in many settings still relies on traditional finger-prick testing, which provides only intermittent readings and may miss rapid fluctuations in glucose levels.

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology addresses this challenge through a minimally invasive wearable sensor placed under the skin that measures glucose levels in interstitial fluid. The sensor transmits data wirelessly to a connected smart device, enabling real-time monitoring, trend analysis, and early detection of high or low glucose levels to support better diabetes management.

Project Brief

VentureBlick is conducting a market assessment study for a company developing wearable glucose monitoring devices for people with diabetes, with the goal of evaluating the current landscape and potential pathways for entry into the China market.

The wearable solution enables:

• Real-time glucose tracking with frequent updates

• Trend analysis showing whether glucose levels are rising, falling, or stable

• Custom alerts for high or low glucose levels

• Smartphone integration for convenient monitoring

• Remote data sharing with caregivers and clinicians

• Reduced need for traditional finger-prick testing

Expert Profile Criteria

Industry Experts

• Head-level or above at a CGM or diabetes diagnostics company in China within the last 5 years 

• Ex-Abbott, ex-Sinocare, Ex- Sibioinics or other MedTech executive with direct China CGM market experience

• National or large distributor of CGM with 10+ years of experience in glucose monitoring with at least 3+ years in CGM

• Direct experience in CGM distribution, procurement, or regulatory affairs in China 

Medical Experts

• Active endocrinologist or diabetologist (minimum 1 year of experience) 

• Manages minimum 10+ CGM-prescribing patients per month 

• Works at a Grade 2/3 hospital or recognized specialty diabetes clinic 

Work Required

• Review: Read a detailed backgrounder on the company and its activities (1 hour)

• Interview: Complete an interview with a member of our team, providing insights based on your expertise in CGM, diabetes diagnostics and related commercial pathways in the China market
